Fast Courier arranges urgent courier delivery of microchips worth $110,000
Chip shortages are commonplace among the automotive industry at present and manufacturers are often required to go to extreme lengths to source available chips and keep production lines operational. This was the case for one manufacturer who urgently needed to transport 300 chips from Manchester to its production site in Le Mans, France.
The manufacturer approached Priority Freight for assistance with its logistical challenge, which was compounded by extensive delays at UK ports, new customs procedures and the high-value of the goods in question. Using its professional, bespoke transport management system (TMS) and network of support agents, Priority Freight responded immediately and created a bespoke logistical solution to solve the problem.
While one member of the appointed team worked on sourcing a driver and vehicle, another started the detailed customs paperwork and T1 forms to allow the goods to pass quickly across the border into France. A third expert completed the high value transport insurance required to move the high-value chips in one shipment. With each member of the Priority Freight team working in harmony on their appointed tasks, the driver was equipped with all necessary clearance and insurance and arrived on site to collect the goods within just one hour of the initial phone call.
Fast Courier provides 24/7 technical assistance for European-based automotive manufacturer to continue production
For production to continue, the manufacturer required daily collection of parts, from up to 30 UK and EU suppliers. Due to the ever-changing schedules, there was limited knowledge of parts quantities, packaging dimensions and some supplier locations, making this challenge seem impossible.
COVID-19 closures had altered the operating hours for many suppliers which limited collection times. Plus, new air freight plans were issued daily, requiring a rapid and accurate turnaround of customs paperwork, export declarations and clearance.
As soon as the manufacturer requested assistance, Priority Freight assigned a team of experienced planners from within various areas of the business to oversee the project.
The logistics solution included 40 special rush shipments per day by road and, to help speed up the supply chain, required multiple air charters to match changing consignment sizes and weight.
Over the course of the project, more than 100 aircraft were chartered, ranging from multiple Antonov-12s, Boeing 737 freighters, the new-to-the-market A321 freighter and the fast-loading Ilyushin 76.
The expert team worked 24/7 over two weeks to:
- Oversee the door-to-door transport of 250m3 or 50,000kg of air freight per day
- Negotiate special operating hours at airports that would ensure the deliveries arrived on time (most airports operated limited opening hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic)
- Liaise with handling agents to plan vehicle offloading, aircraft pallet building and aircraft loading distribution
- Help ensure permits were granted by the relevant Civil Aviation Authorities due to new Brexit aviation rules between the UK and EU
With around-the-clock responses and time-critical logistics expertise, Priority Freight delivered all shipments in time and helped the automotive manufacturer avoid downtime that would have cost €150m per week in lost revenue.
Fast Courier transports 12 tonnes of machinery from UK to Germany and back – in just 96 hours
Fast Courier’s expertise was required by a mainstream vehicle manufacturer that needed to transport over 11 tonnes of die casting machines from its factory in the north of England to a facility near Stuttgart, Germany, for routine re-chroming. The parts then needed to be transported back to the UK for installation back on the production line before the factory reopened on Tuesday morning.
The expert team at Priority Freight considered the various modes of transport at their disposal and decided that shipping the parts by articulated lorry and trailer would be the most cost-effective and quickest solution.
Downtime was not an option given the manufacturer’s fast-paced production process. In order to exceed the client’s requirements, the team at Priority Freight worked over a Bank Holiday weekend when the car factory was closed, in order for production to continue uninterrupted once the factory reopened.
With additional post-Brexit regulations making time-critical logistics from the UK to mainland Europe a more complex challenge, Priority Freight used its team of in-house customs specialists to prepare for the four necessary customs stops in advance, sending paperwork ahead of the shipment to expedite the process.
This exceptional customs management process is thanks to Priority Freight’s ‘Faster Clearance by Priority Customs’ service. This simplification procedure has proven invaluable in risk mitigation post Brexit, and Priority Freight are one of only a few freight forwarders in the UK now qualified to provide this service whereby the Government permits goods to be cleared through customs without unloading saving valuable time.
In providing a complete end-to-end solution, Priority Freight is able to generate and control all customs paperwork from the outset. The German Transport Agent received the customs documents as soon as they were created, helping them prepare for the incoming shipment. The client was also given regular updates regarding the location of their shipment and when it would be arriving back in the UK.
The automotive client was so satisfied with the speed and agility of the shipment, it has since asked Priority Freight to conduct this route multiple times again this year.
